Rules for the Recorder
1. Students must bring their recorder and folder to music class every music day. If students fail to bring in their recorder three times, then they lose the privilege of taking their recorders home to practice.
2. Students can only play their recorder at home and in the music room. If they play the recorder in any other location (on the bus, outside, etc), they will lose the privilege of taking their recorders home to practice.
3. Students should be the only ones playing their recorder during the school year. This is to ensure that the recorders do not get lost or broken. Recorders are musical instruments and are not toys.

How Recorder Karate Works
Test During Music Class:
• During most class periods, students will have recorder practice time. During this time, Ms. Mertzeis will be calling up students who have signed up for testing in the order their names are written on the board. Usually, 5-10 people will be able to test on a given recorder day.
• No student will be able to test for more than one song during a single school day.
Students pass a song, and receive their recorder belt, if they score either a 3 or 4 on the following rubric. Students will not pass if they have a 1 or 2. Think about these categories while you are practicing.
